It’s All About Margate Right Now

It might not feel like it, since the weather has been so shockingly bad since June arrived, but summer is certainly on the way - so what better time than the present to plan a few beach trips around the UK over the next few weeks.

If you’re mulling over destinations at the moment, we reckon you should pack your hipster camera bags up and make your way to (hopefully) sunny Margate, a seaside town that’s so trendy it’s been nicknamed Shoreditch-on-Sea!

There’s a lot to photograph but your first port of call should probably be the Shell Grotto if you’re looking for something a little different to capture on film. Apparently discovered back in 1835, the Grotto is 70ft of underground passages that wend their way towards a big rectangular chamber - all covered in shells… 4.6 million of them, in fact! No one really knows who created it or why… so if you love a mystery, this is the place for you.

For more photo opportunities, head off to the Walpole Bay Tidal Pool, the biggest saltwater pool in the UK. You’ll get some great snaps for your photo album but make sure you brave the waters and take the plunge before you head home again.

If you like your street photography, head to the Old Town where you’ll find gorgeous Georgian and Victorian buildings primed and ready to be photographed. It’s the most bohemian part of Margate and potentially the most stylish, so you’ll have a great day out wandering the streets of this part of town.
