If you’re looking for somewhere for a short break, you could do a lot worse than heading to the UK’s capital city, after it was named as the best rated destination in the world for 2019 in the latest TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

London has climbed from second place in the list last year to be in the number one spot in 2019, based on the reviews of TripAdvisor users.
Hayley Coleman, spokesperson for TripAdvisor, suggested that the royal wedding between Harry and Meghan played a part in helping London climb the ranks. With their baby also due this year, it’s likely that the city could continue to receive a boost thanks to the couple’s popularity.
“The global fascination with Harry and Meghan clearly has a powerful effect as this is the first time since 2016 that London has topped the world rankings,” Ms Coleman stated.
Two London museums featured in the list of the 25 top museums in the world too. This category within the TripAdvisor awards saw the British Museum take the fourth spot, with the National Gallery just missing the top ten and taking 11th place.
