Top Spots To Escape London For A Day

When you live in London, it can be easy to get sucked into staying in the bustle of the city all the time. But there are some great escapes from London that are a lot closer than you might imagine and ideal for a weekend getaway.

Pack up your vintage backpacks in the UK and get ready for a weekend of exploration elsewhere in our green and pleasant land.

House & Garden recently picked out some of the top options for a weekend escape. We were pleased to see that the Cotswolds made the list. If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful and off the beaten track in this popular area, the news provider recommends staying in Crudwell.

From here, you can visit the peaceful Westonbirt Arboretum and head over to Tetbury to trawl through its alleys of antique stores.

Another top spot to consider, especially if you love photographing picturesque architecture, is Rye in East Sussex. This is one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Think winding, cobbled streets lined by half-timbered Georgian and Tudor houses.

The Ypres Tower is a must-visit here, as it’s where you can learn all about the smuggling history of this intriguing and pretty English town.

We recently highlighted Margate in Kent as a top place to visit, because it’s got such a trendy reputation - it’s even known as Shoreditch-on-Sea.

But if you’re looking for somewhere that’s a little more off the beaten track, Deal in Kent is a good choice. It’s a little further south and is the perfect place for a charming seaside break but with fewer crowds.
